Eagles’ track and field team competes in UK Indoor Wildcat Classic; sophomore Alexandra Lawson places second in hurdles

In the first track meet of the season the Fort Knox High School Eagles track and field team traveled to the University of Kentucky where they competed in the UK Indoor Wildcat Classic.

Despite the tough competition, the Eagles track and field team held their own.

“The kids did great, real tough competition too” said Eagles head coach James Bleecker.

The girls’ team competed at UK’s Nutter Fieldhouse in a field of 118 runners. Sophomore Alexandra Lawson ran in the 200-meter dash and placed fourth with a time of 26.22 seconds. In the 400-meter dash out of a field of 98 runners junior Jenna Doehring placed 37th with a time of 1:06.81 and sophomore Taylor Nordman placed 40th with a time of 1:07.57.

Lawson placed second out of a field of 48 hurdlers in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.49. Sophomore Kaitlyn Cornes placed 26th with a time
of 11.39 and sophomore Abby Donohue placed
34th with a time of 11.82. In the 1-mile run out of a field of 95 runners eighth-grader Claire Donohue placed 76th with a time of 6:53.66.

Junior Fabienne Reinl placed 28th out of 44 competitors in the long jump with a jump of 12-7 1/4 feet. In the shot put Alana Estrada-Roldan threw 20-10 3/4 feet, placing 36th out of 51 competitors.

Senior Nate Callison placed 18th out of 139 runners with a time of 23.75, senior Craig Perches placed 41st with a time of 24.40 and senior Ahlec Santiago placed 45th with a time of 24.46 in the 200-meter dash. In the 2-mile run sophomore Orlando Rojas placed 19th out of a field of 31 runners with a time of 10:41.66. In the 60-meter dash out of a field of 135 Nate placed 19th with a time of 7.37. In the 1-mile run Orlando placed 41st with a time of 4:58.66 and Yadiel Rojas placed 57th with a time of 5:10.31 out of 133 runners.

Santiago placed fifth out of 74 competitors in the long jump with a jump of 20-7 3/4 feet. In the shot put senior Malleeq Walters threw 39-8 1/2 feet placing 11th out of 73 competitors.

The Eagles’ next track and field meet will be March 7 in Leitchfield, Kentucky to compete in the Grayson County All Comers meet. n
