CAMP KNOX SOLDIERS CARRIED THE COLORS ON AN ARMY HOLT CATERPILLAR TRACTOR in the 1920s. Track-type tractors were first used by the Allies during the World War I. These heavy mechanized vehicles often replaced horses and mules for towing and by 1920s could be found at Camp Knox hauling artillery pieces, transporting heavy equipment, and parading the colors during official parades. Working on gas engines, the tractor had a top speed of about 15 miles per hour.
