Hooray for Heroes a testimony of support

-A A +A

COMMAND MESSAGE

By The Staff

By MAJ. GEN. JAMES MILANO

Fort Knox Commander

I recommend that you make your way to the Radcliff Hooray for Heroes celebration Saturday in the parking lot between the Radcliff Walmart and Stithton Baptist Church. Our Soldiers and Families will receive a huge collective thank-you from our community neighbors for all that Family members sacrifice in defense of the nation.

Scores of volunteers from the local community are joining in a heartwarming show of gratitude for active duty military personnel, veterans, first responders, and their Family members. This will be the fifth anniversary of the celebration, and I’m told it will be bigger and better than ever.

There will be more than 100 booths along with children’s games, clowns, live bands, and a free lunch for all military personnel, first responders, and their Families. Fort Knox will have a display of vehicles at the event that includes an M1 tank, Bradley Fighting Vehicle, and Stryker.

Hooray for Heroes kicks off at noon, with festivities continuing until 5 p.m. All events, including entertainment, are free. What a great day this will be, and what a perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbors better!

The event culminates with a patriotic program at 7 p.m. in Stithton Baptist Church. Fort Knox’s 19th Engineer Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Heath Roscoe, will be the guest speaker. He and his unit returned to Fort Knox in April from a 12-month deployment to Afghanistan where their work on construction projects helped support the surge efforts. The program will be emceed by Louisville WHAS-TV news anchor Rachel Platt, who hails from a military Family.

Thanks to local businessmen Randy Acton and Will Stolz for taking a vision and making it a reality with Hooray for Heroes five years ago. The Radcliff Chamber of Commerce planning committee, which works countless hours putting the event together, deserves our gratitude, along with the volunteers and sponsors. A big thank you

also goes to the community members for the wonderful support they give to our

military Families, not

only during Hooray for Heroes but throughout the year. We are blessed to have such a great relationship with our community partners. They help make us strong!
