Prost! - Knox celebrates Oktoberfest

Hundreds of area merrymakers gathered at Brooks Parade Field Friday to toast all
things German at the 2017 Fort Knox Oktoberfest.

This year’s fest delivered big on food and beer, pumpkin painting, live music, a cornhole tournament, volksmarch 5K and a kids zone lined with several inflatables.

Many kids devoted time and energy to the inflatables, as adults gathered under massive tents for more traditional German fun.

Despite the relaxed atmosphere at the 5K, some exercised their competitive natures hoping to finish before the others. Thor Newsome earned that distinction.

Myner Monroe sat at the end of a table covered in paint and glitter. Mom stood watching as her 5-year-old girl admired the masterpiece taking shape in her hands – a multicolored rock. Soon, the rock, along with others, would be hidden around the post.

Mom smiled at the Easter egg hunt concept.

“What a great idea!” she said. “This has been a good day.” n
