Reebok Spartan Race —the obstacle course race with a worldwide following—will be coming to the central Kentucky Army post for the first time July 22.
The 3-mile course will be at Atcher Drop Zone
in the training range complex, which features undulating topography along with Spartan’s
signature obstacles designed to provide
physical and mental
challenges for athletes of all fitness levels.
Open to everyone, racers and spectators are encouraged to preregister online to secure a spot; however, in-person sign-ups will be accepted the day of the race beginning at 6 a.m. on a space available basis. There also will be two special courses for children—a one-half-mile course for ages 4-8 and a 1-mile course for ages 9-13. Complete race information, including directions, hotel information and limited-time discount codes can be found at knox.armymwr.com.
Parking will be $10 per car, $20 per van and $50 per bus/RV and is cash only.
Fort Knox also will host a Spartan Workout May 20 at Kilianski Sports Park (6201 Wilson Rd.) where attendees can learn bodyweight fitness training techniques from Spartan SGX-certified coaches in preparation for race day. The two-hour event is free and open to everyone; however, preregistration must be made at Spartan.com. Attendees only need to bring a signed waiver (form is at http://d2md0bjwkj5142.cloudfront.net/Spartan-Race-Workout-Waiver.pdf), a bottle of water and towel.
NOTE: Spartan Race participants
and spectators will not be entering Fort Knox through one of its primary access control points, enabling simpler and expedited access to the race site. However, everyone still must have their state-issued driver’s license or identification card ready to present upon entry to the training range complex. Residents of nonREAL ID Act-compliant states must present an additional form of valid ID. Visit http://www.knox.army.mil/Garrison/des/psd/realid.aspx for details. n
