Agnes Cofer received the NARFE Distinguished Member Award at the last meeting. The next meeting will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Nolin RECC. It will be a business meeting, election of officers, and the guest speaker will be Roger McCurry. The NARFE Service Center will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. to assist with OPM issues.

FORT KNOX GARRISON COMMANDER COL. BRUCE JENKINS presented Vine Grove resident Irvin Lyons Jr. with a proclamation on Sept. 24, which stated Fort Knox is officially a Purple Heart City. Lyons championed a cause in Kentucky for cities across the state to become Purple Heart Cities as a show of appreciation for all those who haved served in the military and received the Purple Heart award. Lyons, himself a Purple Heart recipient, said 33 other cities in Kentucky have become Purple Heart Cities.
