A 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas, Soldier was killed in a vehicle crash that occurred Feb. 9 in El Paso, Texas. The 29-year-old specialist was a front-seat passenger in a Ford F-150 pick-up driven by another Soldier. There was also a civilian female passenger in the rear seat. The vehicle was traveling in the center lane when the driver attempted to exit the interstate and struck another vehicle that was in the right lane, forcing it into the concrete guardrail. The Soldier-driver subsequently lost control of the pick-up and it rolled over. The Soldier-passenger (specialist) was partially ejected and pinned by the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt. The driver and rear passenger were wearing their seat belts and only suffered minor injuries.
