3rd ESC holding welcome home ceremony
The 3rd Sustainment Command's (Expeditionary) 200-plus deployed Soldiers are scheduled to return after nine months in Afghanistan and will be welcomed home during a ceremony at Fort Knox's Natcher Physical Fitness Center at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The command, also known as the 3rd ESC, is a headquarters logistics unit that provides command and control for all logistics operations within the area it's deployed.
When the 3rd ESC deployed in April 2012, it assumed command of Joint Sustainment Command - Afghanistan at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, which is comprised of more than 4,000 service members and civilians. This command was responsible for the logistics needs for combat operations and the movement of equipment back to the U.S., post surge.
Because the ceremony time is subject to change, visit the Fort Knox Facebook page for updates.
