Last week the Fort Knox High School Eagles boys’ and girls’ cross-country team traveled to Bardstown to compete in the Bluegrass Bolt 5k Cross-Country Invitational. The Eagles were able to remain competitive as they ran the 3.10 miles against much larger schools.

The boys placed fourth out of 10 teams with sophomore Orlando Rojas and junior Jabari Jackson leading the way. Rojas earned a medal for placing fourth out of 100 runners with a time of 17:36. Jackson placed ninth out of 100 runners with a time of 17:57.

The girls’ team placed fifth out of five teams with freshman Kayleigh Kopp and junior Jenna Doehring leading the way. Kopp placed eighth out of 59 runners with a time of 22:50. Doehring placed 22 out of 59 runners with a time of 24:05.

Today the Eagles traveled to Brandenburg to compete in the Lincoln Trail Heartland 5k conference meet at the Brandenburg Telephone Company where they will once again face larger schools. This will be the last competition for the Eagles before regionals, which is next week.

Although Fort Knox is a smaller school, several of the runners have a chance at competing at the state level.
