Heartland Film announces films to be shown at ‘Indy Shorts’ International Film Festival

Nonprofit arts organization Heartland Film, Inc. recently announced the film lineup for the upcoming Indy Shorts International Film Festival, called Indy Shorts, Indianapolis’s first-ever short film festival and an Academy Award-qualifying event.

The festival is expected to be one of the largest of its kind in the Midwest and will exclusively feature films less than 40 minutes in length. Indy Shorts will be at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields July 26-29.

The following are finalists that will be showing at the festival:

One Small Step – Animated Short – U.S., China: An ambitious young girl aspires to be an astronaut with the support of her humble father.

Poles Apart – Animated Short – U.K.: In a harsh Arctic landscape, a hungry and solitary polar bear has to decide if a naive Canadian grizzly bear is her food or her friend.

$30 to Antarctica – Documentary Short – Hong Kong, U.S., Antarctica: Follow the story of Ka Foon Chau, who grew up an impoverished child and retired a renowned doctor.

Abu Adnan – Narrative Short – Denmark: Sayid wants to keep his status as a father and the family patriarch in a new linguistic and cultural setting, despite his son’s progress in assimilating into the Danish culture.

The Burden – Animated Short – Sweden: A dark musical enacted in a modern market place, situated next to a large freeway. Employees of the various commercial venues deal with boredom and existential anxiety by performing cheerful musical turns.

The Invention – Narrative Short – Ireland: In 1960s Belfast, a young boy comes of age while devising a plan to steal cigarettes.

The Unconditional – Documentary Short – U.S.: An unflinching look into the lives of two undiagnosed special needs kids and their parents, as they grow older with no answers in sight.

Zion – Documentary Short – U.S.: A portrait of Zion Clark, a young wrestler who was born without legs and grew up in foster care.

Intrusion – Narrative Short – Australia –World Premiere: Fashion editor Marion enters a studio to direct a shoot. A traumatic event has occurred the night before, but details are fragmented and unclear.

The Driver is Red – Animated Short – U.S.: Set in Argentina in 1960, this true crime documentary follows the story of secret agent Zvi Aharoni as he hunts down one of the highest-ranking Nazi war criminals on the run.
