For the fourth straight year, HHC USAREC dominated the soccer pitch at this year’s Fort Knox intramural championships.

The boys in red came into the semifinal game with only one loss on the season – to MEDDAC earlier in the year. Team manager Willard Hill said they were down four players for that game that resulted in a 3-5 loss.

Otherwise, their season appeared flawless.

Post-season proved much the same as USAREC continued to dominate leading into the semifinals against MEDDAC Sept. 5.

Both teams started a little slow with tries on both sides of the field until USAREC opened it up with a score. Soon after, they scored again. Momentum stayed with them throughout the game as the score remained 2-0 by the final whistle.

19th Engineers entered the pitch against USAREC shortly after to start the final. While USAREC entered with momentum, 19th entered with fresh legs.

Shortly before the half, Hill took a perfect pass by a teammate and punched the back of 19th Engineers’ net with a header. Another score in the second sealed the deal for the win, 2-0.

Hill gave credit for the four-peat to two areas where his team excels.

“Predominantly, we’re familiar with one another. The core of our team has been the same for the last three years, so we instinctively know where each other will put the ball,” said Hill. “Outstanding goal keeping is the other thing. Both our goalkeepers have had some outstanding saves when needed.” n
