Holidays are great days at Kentucky State Parks

Some facilities will close for upgrades

Kentucky State Parks will be ready for the winter holidays this year with special meals, decorations, candlelight tours, entertainment and other special events planned.

State parks are a great place for Christmas and holiday gatherings. The resort parks have restaurants, meeting areas and gift shops that offer unique gift ideas. This includes Kentucky Unbridled Spirit gift cards, which are valid at Kentucky State Parks, the Kentucky Horse Park, the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

Kentucky park officials note, however, there are some closures occurring during the holidays to improve facilities and reduce expenses while causing the least amount of disruption to guests and staff.

The restaurant at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park in Dawson Springs will be closed Jan. 3-24, 2018. New flooring and windows will be installed in the kitchen and dining room. Lodge rooms and cottages will remain open and a free continental breakfast will be offered to the park’s overnight guests.

The lodge and dining hall will be closed at Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park in Perry County Jan. 1- April 30, 2018. The park’s five cottages will remain open to the public.

The Kenlake State Resort Parks restaurant in Aurora will close for two months after the New Year’s Day 2018 breakfast. Guests at the resort between Jan. 1-Feb. 28, 2018, when the restaurant is closed, will be offered free continental breakfasts. Food services will be available for special events during this time of reduced services.

All other Kentucky State Resort Parks are open this winter. Many state resort parks will hold dinners Dec. 31 and New Year’s Eve parties. For more information about these and other events, call your favorite park. For more information about Kentucky State Parks, visit www.parks.ky.gov.
