No pet surrenders accepted

As a reminder to the Fort Knox community, no pet surrenders are being accepted at the Fort Knox Stray Animal Facility, according to fa-cility noncommissioned officer, Staff Sgt. Daniel Player. If owners are facing a situation where they can no longer keep their dog or cat, the staff provides a list of suggested facilities where the animal may be accepted. However, no matter where owners surrender their animal, a fee will be charged.
Eventually the facility—which is aging and no longer prudent to maintain—will be closed. That will not happen until there is an agreement in place so that stray animals can be accepted by a neighboring animal facility. Knox Hills and the garrison command officials said they believe this will be completed soon before the high traffic of military moves begin, which is often when pet owners realize they cannot take their animals with them.
