Retiree Appreciation Day coming to Fort Knox

-A A +A

Military retirees, their families and surviving spouses are being encouraged by leaders to attend the 2017 Retiree Appreciation Day at Saber & Quill on Fort Knox Oct. 13.

The annual event will feature a variety of resources, including medical services, the option to receive new military ID cards and legal assistance through notaries, living wills and the power of attorney. A shuttle will be accessible at the event to transport attendees from Saber & Quill to the Ireland Army Health Clinic and the ID cards facility.

Hosted by the transition services section of Military Personnel Services Branch, the event provides support for Army retirees and their families, along with support for personnel transitioning into retirement.

Attendees will have access to more than 50 booths from Fort Knox organizations. Free flu vaccines also will be available for retired service members, surviving spouses and family members.

Jolene Culpepper, transition services section chief, said there will be new medical services available although the services provided at the event remain relatively consistent over the years.

A retiree luncheon also will take place from noon until 1 p.m. with a guest speaker from Fort Knox Garrison Command. Other events include a “shred event,” where attendees can destroy documents at the Fort Knox Recycle Center, an Exchange/commissary advisory council meeting and installation bus tour, both beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The event will start at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony and conclude at 5 p.m.

Culpepper said appreciation day is a good way to “allow Fort Knox and the local communities the opportunity to pay tribute to all of the service members, their Families, and the surviving spouses for their service to our great nation.” n
